Concept Kitchens by Parker Yarborough
These concept kitchens were made as practice during my time as a cabinet designer at Lowe’s in Homewood, AL.
I first had to learn the basics of actually designing a kitchen. When and where to add fillers, adding scribe and quarter round to every order, NKBA guidelines, etc.
From there it was about learning 2020 Design Live. I spent weeks trying to understand more about the lighting and rendering systems.
The following is the result of this work.
Shiplap Bend
With mid century modern roots, this kitchen is the most recent of my designs.
I wanted to give myself a challenge, something I had never done before, so I decided to make a kitchen that utilized end of run transition cabinets.
This kitchen also features two levels of wall cabinets and an alcove accented by a valance.
Bespoke Gold
This kitchen allowed me to explore a few different things.
The main feature is a peninsula with a farm sink and seating. I had never designed something like this before this kitchen.
The wall cabinets utilize end of run transition cabinets to create a seamless blend into the wall.
This kitchen was also the first where I explored adding my own textures. I used an image to create an environment outside of the windows.
This was the first real concept kitchen I designed. This is modeled based on a friend from high school’s kitchen, with some upgrades.
I have since used what I’ve learned about rendering to improve the overall look of the design, with the city of Birmingham being featured in the backdrop.
Runway
These renderings also showcase one of the features of 2020 Design 13: Depth of Field.
Notice how the backgrounds are out of focus, leading your eye to the focal points of each rendering.
With this kitchen, I wanted the cabinets to simulate being a piece of furniture. Floating shelves create an interconnected look that unifies the cabinet walls.
